چکیده

We develop a primal dual active set with continuation algorithm for solving the l-regularized least-squares problem that frequently arises in compressed sensing. The algorithm couples the the primal dual active set method with a continuation strategy on the regularization parameter. At each inner iteration, it first identifies the active set from both primal and dual variables, and then updates the primal variable by solving a (typically small) least-squares problem defined on the active set, from which the dual variable can be updated explicitly. Under certain conditions on the sensing matrix, i.e., mutual incoherence property or restricted isometry property, and the noise level, the finite step global convergence of the algorithm is established. Extensive numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm and the convergence analysis. keywords: primal dual active set method, coordinatewise minimizer, continuation strategy, global convergence.

A Primal Dual Active Set Algorithm for a Class of Nonconvex Sparsity Optimization

In this paper, we consider the problem of recovering a sparse vector from noisy measurement data. Traditionally, it is formulated as a penalized least-squares problem with an `1 penalty. Recent studies show that nonconvex penalties, e.g., `0 and bridge, allow more effective sparse recovery. We develop an algorithm of primal dual active set type for a class of nonconvex sparsity-promoting penalt...

Exponential membership function and duality gaps for I-fuzzy linear programming problems

Fuzziness is ever presented in real life decision making problems. In this paper, we adapt the pessimistic approach tostudy a pair of linear primal-dual problem under intuitionistic fuzzy (I-fuzzy) environment and prove certain dualityresults. We generate the duality results using exponential membership and non-membership functions to represent thedecision maker’s satisfaction and dissatisfacti...

From Dual to Primal Sub-optimality for Regularized Empirical Risk Minimization

Regularized empirical risk minimization problems are fundamental tasks in machine learning and data analysis. Many successful approaches for solving these problems are based on a dual formulation, which often admits more efficient algorithms. Often, though, the primal solution is needed. In the case of regularized empirical risk minimization, there is a convenient formula for reconstructing an ...

A Feasible Active Set Method for Strictly Convex Quadratic Problems with Simple Bounds

A primal-dual active set method for quadratic problems with bound constraints is presented which extends the infeasible active set approach of Kunisch and Rendl [17]. Based on a guess of the active set, a primal-dual pair (x,α) is computed that satisfies stationarity and the complementary condition. If x is not feasible, the variables connected to the infeasibilities are added to the active set...
